Personality Profile for MMC2100 class

When Stephanie Howick visited her family in the United Kingdom last summer, stumbling upon a movie set was an added surprise.

After doing some research, she set out into the woods, walked down a hill and discovered a huge castle. There was a village of huts, a straw field, an area of burned down structures and signs all around that said, “Beware arrow zone.”

“Robin Hood,” the new movie starring Russell Crowe, had just been filmed there.

A few months later, the trailer for the movie came on in the movie theater.

“It really makes seeing movies more interesting because you have a personal connection to them,” Howick said.

Howick’s love of traveling led her to the discovery. Traveling has affected her life in many ways because it exposes her to other peoples’ cultures and allows her to accept others’ differences, traditions and lifestyles.

“I just like new experiences in general,” said Howick, a freshman advertising major at UF. “There’s a certain thrill to it that I find exciting.”

Also while in the United Kingdom, she went sightseeing and got a taste for the overall culture. Little differences, like walking to the grocery store and driving on the opposite side of the road, were very interesting to her.

“It was a great experience,” Howick said.

Howick has been to several places in the US as well as London and France. She hopes to also visit Germany, New Zealand and Italy one day.

Meeting new people and having new photo opportunities are also things she loves about traveling.

“It’s an escape from everyday life,” Howick said.

She isn’t sure if she will be able to integrate traveling into her advertising career but said that would be beneficial because it would help keep her interest.

“I don’t know how I’m ever going to settle down in one place.”
